Sautéed Green Beans with Garlic

This zippy side dish can also be done with butter and no sauce.

This is one of the most healthy dishes on the Chinese restaurant menu, but it’s a snap to make at home. 

Garlic Green Beans are merely sautéed in peanut oil, and brought together with a sweet, brown sauce.

Sautéed Green Beans with Garlic Recipe: Ingredients

  • 1 lb. fresh green beans
  • 1T. peanut oil
  • 1t. minced garlic 
  • 1/4t. crushed red pepper 
  • 2T. soy sauce 
  • 1T. brown sugar 
  • 1t. cornstarch
  • 1/4c. peanuts

How to Make Sautéed Green Beans with Garlic

  1. Heat the oil in skillet over low heat, while you wash and trim beans. Do not use your largest burner. 
  2. Add beans to pan. 
  3. Sprinkle with the garlic and red pepper, tossing with a spatula to coat. 
  4. Cover pan and cook 15 minutes. 
  5. In a small dish, whisk together soy sauce, brown sugar, and cornstarch to form a sauce. Stir this into the beans. Keep stirring; it should thicken in a few minutes. 
  6. Garnish with peanuts prior to serving.
