If you’re having for a hard time finding a British Beans on Toast recipe, it’s because it’s more of a throw-together than an actual recipe; but sometimes we really need to see a thing written out, right?
British Beans on Toast blends sweet, comforting baked beans with the hearty crunch of fresh toast.
To save you some trouble, be aware that you can make beans on toast simply by spooning some heated (or not) leftover baked beans onto a fresh slice of toast. Really the only “rule” would be that if your beans are saucy, you should serve it in a soup dish; and if they are firm, you can just spread them on and eat it out-of-hand.

Beans on Toast Tips for Success
- Canned baked beans make the kind of “saucy” dish I mentioned earlier. Leftover homemade baked beans are more likely to have thickened sufficiently to spread and eat neatly.
- Do you want thick, spreadable beans without the hassle of homemade? Simmer canned beans gently in a small pan, such as this beauty (view here), until the liquid had reduced.
- Still too saucy? Stir in some dehydrated mashed potato flakes.
- Just the right application of butter is important – Not enough, and the whole thing gets soggy and unwieldy; too much, and you don’t achieve the proper fusion that makes beans on toast more than the sum of its parts.
